Food of Life

Our anniversary dinner went well. We went to Brennan's again, thus keeping the tradition. Last year, we had the chef prepare something off the menu to appease Matthew's picky ways. This year, he ordered Jumbo Shrimp Chippewa straight off the menu.

They prepared the dish at our table, complete with dramatic flames and special sauces. Then they put the shrimp (with Creole spices and sun-dried tomato garlic butter) on a cushion of parmesan cheese grits and placed it in front of Matthew like he was just another wheeler dealer in the restaurant. It was hilarious. After eating a couple of shrimp, he declared the dish "the food of his life."

Matthew ordered peanut butter mousse in a chocolate cup for dessert. We had the house specialty: bananas foster. The staff also presented a plate of prailines with "Happy 11th Anniversary" written in chocolate on top.

They think of everything. I think Matthew could get used to the good life.

Guess who got flowers?

Yesterday was our anniversary, but we're celebrating today. Kevin took a big test this morning, so we had a quiet evening the night before. Really quiet, as it turns out, because the lamp blew up on the big tv.

Kevin took his certification test this morning, then we had family field trip to track down the special tv part. We found it! Crisis averted and football weekend is saved.

Tonight we are having fancy dinner. Matthew is very excited to go to a grown-up restaurant. He feels like he's in on the secret.

Humberto

In the matter of 15 hours, we went from being in the "cone of uncertainty" in a tropical depression, to dirty side of a tropical storm, to west side of a tropical storm, to hurricane down the road.

I know CNN has a dramatic flair, but we didn't get a drop of rain.

Thanks to those who checked on us.

Hiatus Hiatus

Summer is over and school is back in session. I'll see if I can find some time to play catch up. We did a lot in the past few weeks, so be ready for picture overload.
