Birthday Boy

Better late than never. Matthew had a birthday last week. He was adamant that he did not want a party, so we just made a fun day for the family.

Matthew and I have a tradition of making his birthday cake together. Don't laugh at the decorations until YOU try to make a train signal with a pressurized can of frosting.

Matthew chose miniature golf as the first activity of the day. They don't have windmills and castles and gangbangers at our golf place like they do in California. It's just plain astroturf and crooked holes here.

This place had an arcade, too, so we played some games.

Matthew picked Jack in the Box for lunch. Then we came home, opened presents and had cake. Later on, we went swimming, then went to a hibachi restaurant for dinner. Matthew declared it "one of the better birthdays," then said he was tired at 7:00pm.

Later on, Kevin did this with the candles. Do you see what I have to live with, folks?

Baking

Today we made a birthday cake. Matthew decided he needed to supervise the process and inspect the goods.

You Can Fry an Egg

Everyone thinks Houston is hot and humid 11 months out of the year. That's just not true. There is a short hot season, but the rest of the year is great.

Yesterday, we entered into that short season. While it's only 93 here, the heat index kicks in a few more degrees. BUT...I must point out that it is currently hotter in Bismarck, North Dakota than it is here. 97 degrees up there, 93 down here. And we don't have winter 11 months out of the year.

Days like today are the reason we bought a house with a pool, which we use 5 1/2 months a year. You can't get that in North Dakota.
