Bahamas, Part 4

Last set of pictures, I promise.

Here is the home of the $10 lobster.
While we were eating there on Saturday night, there was a concert in the square. This is a junior high school band.
Here is evidence of Kevin doing UNAMERICAN activities.
View from our room.
This picture was taken early in the morning at the airport. A lot of greenery has returned to the island after the back-to-back 2004 hurricanes, but not everything...as you can see from the bare trees in the distance.
Here is our ride back to the U.S. I put this picture in to drive my mom crazy. She hates small planes.

Bahamas, Part 3

I decided to switch to large print because of all the old farts who read this thing. Is that better?

Here are some water pictures:

Lighthouse leading to the marina

Infinity pool as it is supposed to look from the top:

Infinity pool as it looks from the beach. This beach wasn't here last year. It got lost during 2 hurricanes three weeks apart. When we stayed here in July 05, they had trucked in the sand again, but hadn't distributed it on the beach.

Bahamas, Part 2

This is the manor house, where the lobby is located:

It has a pretty impressive view out back:

This is the water-facing front of the hotel (manor house is on the right):

This is the back. The whole thing curves like a "S"

Here's our room. Check out my mad Photoshop skillz:

We didn't see the water, but the view wasn't bad. This on one side and the marina on the other.

Here's an approaching rain storm over the marina.

Bahamas, Part 1

We went to the Bahamas for a long weekend. It is incredibly easy to get there from here: a 2-hour flight to Florida's Atlantic coast, then a puddle jump to Grand Bahama.

Father and son. They drive on the left side of the road here. It's difficult to remember that when you're crossing the street and have a habit of looking left for cars.

Conch fritters. I didn't like them last year, but they're growing on me. The dipping sauce is Thousand Island dressing, or something very close to it.

Island bum with parrots. The blue one wouldn't get on Kevin's arm. Probably had something to do with the Longhorn hat he was wearing, I'm sure.

I stopped to take a picture and this is how they posed. Like father, like son.

Matthew and his $10 lobster.

Stay tuned for more pictures. Matthew's on my case because it's his turn to use the computer.

Summertime

In the summer, I have to share this computer with Matthew. It's hard to find a chunk of time to put up picture posts. Now that Matthew is playing in the game room, I'm seizing the opportunity.

H-town was in the news over the weekend because of the rain. It didn't bother us because we were in the Bahamas (pictures to follow). Whenever there is a story about flooding in our city, you don't have to worry about us. Drainage is more of an issue in the south part of town where they rely on bayous to get the water out.

You'll know if we get flooded because I'll throw Matthew in front of the tv camera so he can be on the Weather Channel.

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Happy third day of the World Cup, or as we call it in the U.S.....Sunday.

Last night, got a babysitter for Matthew and went to
Fogo de Chao. Very good, but not cheap. It's a lesson in self control, because they just keep bringing meat until you tell them to stop. After dinner, we went to The Armadillo Palace for drinks. We've been meaning to check it out ever since we first drove by and saw the big metal armadillo outside. I say it's a good place to hear live music. Kevin says it's a good place to check out the hot bartenders.

Today will be a slow day on the homestead. The boys are watching World Cup games, then they might go swimming. The pool is up to 90 degrees now. Matthew is in it almost every day.

Quilty Goodness

Now that the gift has been given, I can show you pictures of the quilt I made for Baby Papaya Smith, as Matthew says. I started with this pattern in mind, but fabric inavailability, extra checkerboards and a bout of creativity resulted in this:
