Spring Break, part 3

We also went to the Sixth Floor Museum at Matthew's request. On the way there, we saw a commuter train. Look familiar to anyone in Southern California?

Also, this is the street where Kennedy was shot. That's the grassy knoll on the right.

Here is the front of the old school book depository. The museum entrance is on the side. We couldn't take pictures in there. Matthew was very interested in the photos. He studied them carefully. He was less interested in the actual artifacts. There was also a scale model of the area complete with little Kennedy motorcade. Matthew liked that a lot.

Matthew wanted to see a particular train crossing under the Dallas Convention Center. He took this picture:

The gates at this crossing unfolded. That's why he wanted to see them.

DART train.

We ate at some good places. Kevin went watch shopping and we toured the foo-foo areas. We're both glad we chose Houston over Dallas.

Spring Break, part 2

We went to see a Dallas Stars hockey game the next day. American Airlines arena is different than others, because it has a plaza in front of the entrance that has shops and restaurants. The day we were there, there was a charity biker meeting with 200 motorcycles parked right outside.

We got there early and wandered around. We stopped at an empty bar and Matthew posed:

The bar had its own team bench, too:

Matthew liked watching practice before the game.

The game ended in overtime. We were hoping for a shoot-out.

Coincidentally, the last time Kevin and I went to Dallas was for the Cotton Bowl in 1998. We went to a Stars game. They were playing the Kings.

Spring Break, part 1

Matthew just had his spring break (in winter), so we decided to take a quick trip to Dallas. It takes us 4 hours to drive there, including stops. I took this picture from the car as we were approaching the city. Notice the smashed bugs on the windshield:

This is where we stayed. Matthew will tell you the hotel says they have 28 floors, but it's really 27 since they skip #13.

The night we arrived, we went to a Dallas Desperados arena football game:

The rules are slightly different than NFL football to accomodate the venue and make the game more interesting. Matthew had fun.

New Toy

Kevin got me a brand new shiny laptop for my birthday. And it's a wide screen! It's very cool and should reduce the time it takes me to post here by about 75%. What a nice husband.
